Alexandria
George Washington’s Church & Town House
Mount Vernon, George Washington’s family home is close to Alexandria, Virginia. However, George Washington spent a lot of time in Alexandria. It seems, before he became the first president of the United States, he had a townhouse and regularly attended church in Alexandria. Mr. Washington even had a pew in the Episcopal Church, Christ Church. My recollection about the first president is that he lived in the White House and at Mount Vernon. I didn’t know he lived in Alexandria, but he did.
My hotel told me how to find the locations so I went hunting and found George Washington’s Church and Town House, and even his eateries, in Alexandria VA. So, I went to telling you about my discovery about where Washington lived and worshiped in Alexandria.
George Washington’s Church and Town House
My curiosity got the best of me when I learned about his town residence, and I found his church. His church was the Christ Church in Alexandria. So, I went to see them and to see more. Having found his home in Alexandria, his restaurant was easier. Colonial images of the by-gone age when America was young are my obsession because I am from Connecticut.
He only lived two years after he left the presidency. Statesmen, farmer, war hero, scholar, President, and a good citizen, George Washington is a man of his times and for all times an example.

Unraveling the mysteries is fun. With the help of my hotel’s driver, I found the locations. He was very helpful and made great suggestions for my personal tour of Alexandria. I think the Marriott Residence Inn offers a great value for guests because they offer this type of advice, as well as rides to King Street and to and from the metro stations around the hotel. Making your custom tour with the help of your hotel is a fun way to do sightseeing.
