How I planned my trip to help deal with jet lag
I get terrible jet lag. One way I try to deal with it is by staying up as long as possible. My jet lag wasn’t as bad as usual on this trip because I stayed active while flying. By transferring and moving from place to place another, I stayed awake. I didn’t have a chance to think about how horrible I felt, and the moving seemed to make it less severe.
In Dalaman, I hired a car from Eco Transfer. They picked me up at the airport. The taxis and drivers are not allowed to come into the terminal, so if you don’t see anyone, they are waiting outside for you.
From Dalaman, my taxi drove me to Marmaris, Turkey. Through the Marmaris tourism department, I got a few hotel recommendations for as little as $20- $25 a night. My hotel was clean and spartan. It cost $3 extra for air conditioning, which I needed to use while there.
One night in Rhodes
I went to the island of Rhodes for one day and night, taking the ferry from Marmaris. Then I walked off the boat and to my hotel. It took about 15 minutes to get there.
My hotel was the Medieval Rose. I made my reservation on Booking.com for around $35 U.S. My hotel is in the old section. I slept and ate in the Old Town part of Rhodes.
To get to the Medieval Rose Hotel, go through the gate of Rhodes. Go inside the Old Town and walk straight up Socrates Street to the Suleman Mosque. The Medieval Rose is on the upper part of Socrates Street, next to Taverna Arkhodiko. The hotels in Rhodes are on side streets and alleys due to the original city plan and layout of ancient Rhodes.
It took 90 minutes total for me to get from the airport to the hotel. It took only five minutes to get to the port from my hotel. The ferry departs at eight a.m. and arrives at 10 a.m. Check here for this year’s schedule.
