See Smithsonian’s National Gallery of Art, The East Wing

If you love modern art as I do, nothing compares to visiting the new East Wing at the Smithsonian’s National Gallery of Art. I am not sure if I have written about my love of art, but I studied art at the University of Colorado. Nowadays, it seems like such a luxury to study something so existential.

Nevertheless, my love of art includes looking at it, studying how it is made, and creating art. You can see some of my art online. The National Gallery of Art’s building and architectural design add to the beauty of the collection. The Rooftop terrace and the huge Blue Rooster – top-off the ideal place to relax after seeing this great collect of art. the

Trust me, the National Gallery of Art is a Must-See exhibit when in DC. I love art. I love this exhibition.

The New East Wing of the National Art Gallery

Hopefully, I am going to be able to show you the feeling I had looking at these masterpieces. It was a special treat for my daughter to see it with me. The highlight of my day is talking to my daughter about the pieces, which ones are favorites and hearing her opinion about how art progressed and changed over time.

Tt’s impressive to think about how art progressed. Expressionist, Fauvism, and the beginning of Cubism all began as a development from the Victorians era. Some of the most radical changes that defined modern art happened in the fifties, sixties, and seventies. Now, I don’t like all of it, but it is interesting how art reflects our times and reflects the history of each era.

East Wing of the National Gallery of Art

The Terrace with the Blue Rooster

The National Gallery of Art’s East Wing is famous for the Blue Rooster on the roof top terrace. People come here to get a photo with Big Blue! I did. I got several pics. It’s a great way to end the day.

Leaving the Museum

We snapped this photo and talked to the security guards. I noticed that they seemed to fit in and looked great as part of the Calder small works exhibit.

Travel tip: Take a taxi and you will be delivered to the front door in style.
